In this light, the influence of Buddha is still eminently living in India so inuclı so, that we still adore the great Buddha as one of the ten important and epoch making avataras of “ Vishnu the all pervading deity of the universe: 4. In China and Japan and in all the intermediate regions between India and Japan as well as in Ceylon, the religion of Buddha is directly or indirectly followed ; and it does not require any elaborate proofs to establish this well known and well accepted fact. In the Western Countries, the name of Buddha is in modern days acting quite as a charm and most of the books on religious or kindred subjects recently published in Europe and America show direct or indirect signs of advocating the teachings of this Universal Teacher of mankind, in awakening the internal consciousness of man rather than in advocating mere external formalities of worship. The designation, Buddha, in s:ct, means The Awakened in Sanskrit. The awakening of the world will not be complete unless the fleeting transient nature of everything in this world and the principle of true Ahimsa or altruism as such, are fully realised ancl made the practical basis of all activities conducing ito human progress,
