the number of original dramas in Kannada possessing real merit is very small. We have, of course, a large number of translations, both from English and Sanskrit, excellently executed by expert writers, but that is another matter. The publication of the present drama, therefore, cannot but be welcomed by all those interested in the development of Kannada dramatic literature. I may, without fear of contradiction, assert that both in point of language and matter “ Si imati Parinayam " is undoubtedly a production of a very high order, and with this brief foreword, I commend the book to the kind patronage of the cultured Kannada public.
