Title
JEWS HARP
ವಿವರ
English:
An incomplete post-medieval copper-alloy Jew's harp (dating from about AD 1500-1800). The iron prong that was plucked to produce a note is missing, leaving a small scar on one side of the circular head.
When laid flat, the circular head is slightly bent upwards from the tapering arms, both of which are characteristically lozenge-shaped in cross-section. The outer diameter of the head is 26.29mm with an internal diameter of 14.37mm. The surfaces are greenish brown. Length: 59.72mm; width: 26.29mm; thickness: 7.62m. Weight: 17.7g.
Similar examples are illustrated in Bailey 1993 ('Detector Finds 2', 76-77, refs: 4-6). Bailey suggests that these examples date to the eighteenth century. Compare IOW-2527AB.
