336 “The author of this book has aimed to produce a text book for the use of teachers in Elementary Schools, such as shall aid them in the introduction of Nature-study to their pupils. He has aimed to give an account of the main features of plant life as seen in flowering plants, in the every-day language of Tamil speaking people. His illustrations have been drawn only from the commonest plants such as are within the reach of all. The descriptions of the parts and functions of plants are in simple language, well expressed in idiomatic Tamil. If a text book on Botany in the vernacular is worth doing at all, this book is an example of one that is well done. The topics selected for study are within the reach of all: the language is simple : the illustrations are original, and fresh and effective for their purpose: and the letter press and the general get up of the book, admirable. Chapter 12 and 13, imply the use of the microscope, which few teachers in elementary schools, would be likely to possess, or be able to afford.” The Madras Christian College Magazine June, 1908.
