In the western countries the mode of writing accounts in the Carnáaca language, differs materially from that adopted by Telugu and Tamil accounts aots. Pagodas are expressed, as alrcady siated, by prefixing to the integers the letter y, and then thie sign 6 termed succára, is placed to mark the fananis, which are ten to a percda. In filling up the places of fanams, the integers from one to four are used; but if the number be five, the fractional mark" 11" half, is placed instead of it, denoting half a pagoda. If the number of fanams be greater than five, and less than teo, figures denoting fanams are placed after the fractional parts of the pagoda,; and the sigo macára is omitted. If there be no fanams, a cipher is placed after the mark 6, to shew that there are none. Ciphers arc also used to denote the relative value of the fractions. DI Digitized by Google
