Beginner's guide to Wikisource

The introduction and contents page for a linked series of help pages aimed at new users.

The "Beginner's Guide" series of help pages is an entry level guide for new and inexperienced users of Wikisource. The intent is to provide users with the basics they will need to use Wikisource. These pages should:

  1. Present basic concepts in simple language with frequent images and diagrams,
  2. Include links to further help or policy pages to explain specific subjects in greater detail.

Writing

Editing creates the Wikisource library. This part of the Beginner's Guide will show you how to help add works to Wikisource for others to read.

Note: If you are unsure about the sourcing and index page creation elements of Wikisource, you can skip to proofreading with already started works such as the current Proofread of the Month.

Maintenance

Wikisource always needs maintenance to keep it working and make sure that its works are in the best condition possible. This part of the Beginner's Guide will show you how to maintain the project.

  • Maintenance
Things that often need work and how to do it.
  • Deletion
How and why works are deleted.
